Self-hosted For A Year + A New Blogging Approach

That’s right, around this time last year I made the switch from my free WordPress.com account to a self-hosted WordPress.net blog using figure out how to transfer everything. It took me forever to decide on what self-hosting service to use and figure out how to transfer everything, but I have been completely happy with Bluehost and plan to stick with them.

What I won’t be sticking to is how I’ve been blogging in the past. While I don’t have much to hide, I’ll be sharing less of our day-to-day personal life happenings and focusing more on sharing thoughts on food/products/services/etc. that was use. I know I mentioned most of this before, but wanted to reiterate it here.

From little things like healthy snacks for kids and adults to big items like mattresses (yes, really, stay tuned!), I want to share our thoughts here in hopes that you’ll find them useful. Some reviews will be by my own doing on items we paid for ourselves, and some will be provided to me at a discount or for free. No matter how we received the item, you can trust that I will give you our true thoughts.

Yes, I said our, Avery is picking up her communication skills fast and is improving her ability to actually explain her thoughts to us, so why not have her help with reviews? And since we’re a close, loving family, Going Mom will obviously have her opinion heard on here too. This, along with other health-related topics like quick exercise routines and recipes are all in the Going Dad future.

Don’t worry, if you came here just for the cute pics of Avery, I’ll still have some on the blog, and there’s always plenty on my Facebook and Instagram pages. Okay, here’s one just because. She looks very unsure of the camera here….

I might as well add that, if you’re in the market, whether a tech newbie or hosting pro, Bluehost has what you need and helps make things easy and affordable. So, if you want to check them out, I would appreciate you clicking the banner below. Whether you sign up or not, it helps me earn a few cents and maybe even dollars, and it’s no difference to you!

Posts will be shorter for small item reviews, but still contain useful information (I hope) to help you decide on if it’s worth it to you or not. I am looking forward to giving this new approach a try, and can’t wait to get started!

Hope you’re having a great start to the New Year! Let me know your thoughts on this new approach and what you’d like to see for reviews, workouts, or recipes and I’ll do my best to provide.

Did It Work? Where’s the Coffee?

So, after posting my last post on making the switch to being self-hosted, I think I transferred most of the important things over to www.going-dad.com!

Go me! I think…..

So tell me, what do you see in your inbox if you are currently a follower?

And please, I’d like to know what annoys you or what you’d like to see added. I now have more freedom on what I can do with the blog, and as I figure things out, hopefully I use this said freedom.

Until then, it’s 4am and I should be sleeping…..4 hours ago. We have several trips planned for our Sunday, and I think multiple coffee stops will be included! Hello, caffeine!

As I said last post, have a great rest of your weekend!

I’m Leaving. Will You Please Join Me?

Okay, so I’m not physically leaving anywhere, I’m just (hopefully) changing from current free blog to a self-hosted domain.

Exactly when? I haven’t a clue. I already have my new domain registered, and it is www.going-dad.com. I’m trying to get the main task of exporting everything from this free blog and importing it to my new one, but my lack of knowledge on this topic is shining bright since I’m not getting very far!

After having paid for 3 years of self-hosted service, I’m reluctant to pay for one of the many transfer services offered, but I might end up going that route if all else fails. So far, all else is failing!

I’ve been bothering Going Mom about switching to a self-hosted blog for a long time, and she’s listened to me go on and on more than she needs to, so I’m glad I finally bought the service. Now I just need to figure out what to do with it!

In the meantime, please bare with me and offer any thoughts/tips/advice you have. I’m hoping that I am able to transfer all of you that are currently subscribed/following me, but please, if you still care to follow a crazy stay-at-home dad getting worked up about free blogs vs. self-hosted on top of my many OCD tendencies, please visit www.going-dad.com and bookmark the site to be ready to follow if needed.

I wanted to have goingdad.com, but that’s taken and would cost about $50 to $70 just for a broker to go and see if the owner will sell it for a certain amount. Might sound cheap to some, but that’s a new kettlebell for this girl right there!

self-hosted, kettlebell, toddler, blog, parenting

However, goingdad.net is still available, and if I ever get everything else squared away, I would like to purchase that domain to hold on to. One thing at a time though.

Anyway, I’m just rambling now. Better get back to messing around with transferring my blog and other things I have no clue on. Hope you’re having a great weekend and that you still want to stick around!

Have you ever made the switch from a free blog account to a paid domain/self-hosted?

If so, was it easy, hard, or you had someone do it all for you?
