New Year’s Resolutions: Treating Your Health The Way You Deserve

We can all slip when it comes to our health. But if you want to start treating your health the way it should be treated, why not make a resolution around it? Indeed, research shows that nearly 50% of people who make a resolution they can commit to are much more likely to complete their goal within the year ahead!

When you feel like your mental and physical health has gone long neglected, those are the kind of numbers you can rely on. So let’s take your health more seriously now we’re into January. No matter what you’re worrying about, this is your chance to make a lasting positive change. You can have a great year when you take it on with meaning, and we’ve got some tips below to help.

Knock Habits on the Head

Bad habits can form in a heartbeat. From snacking too often on chocolates and fatty foods, to smoking and/or drinking on a slightly too regular basis, bad habits can sneak up on us. And once they’re in place, they can be hard to shift. But they’re not impossible.

One very worthy new year’s resolution would be to fight back against habits like these. Pick one you find to be most disruptive and work on cutting it back. Maybe snack once a day in between meals, or learn how to vary your diet to ensure you’re always full after eating? Or maybe you should try patches or a vape, or learn to make delicious mocktails, to help keep potential substance issues at bay.

Assert Your Own Rights

Your health is the one thing you should have complete control over. Indeed, it’s the biggest part of you in most cases! And this is the number one reason it deserves a bit more TLC in the new year. The best way to do that? Know your rights and how to assert them. And you’ve got a lot of them in the medical world.

Whether you need a second opinion or you’ve been involved in a case of medical malpractice, you’ve got a right to do what you need to. That often means learning how to properly talk about your symptoms as well as knowing how to fight for compensation. Indeed, if you’ve got an issue already you can let a member of the Morris Bart Law Firm review your case. It’s up to you how to proceed, but knowledge very much is power here!

Don’t Write Off Self Care

Self care is important for everyone. It’s your chance to look at how you’re feeling and focus on ways to alleviate any pressures and stresses you’re going through. For the sake of your mental health alone, this is essential! From writing about your feelings to treating yourself once a week to talking to your loved ones more often, self care takes many forms. Find the one that suits you the best.

Your health deserves good care. Go after it with tips like these.

Self-hosted For A Year + A New Blogging Approach

That’s right, around this time last year I made the switch from my free WordPress.com account to a self-hosted WordPress.net blog using figure out how to transfer everything. It took me forever to decide on what self-hosting service to use and figure out how to transfer everything, but I have been completely happy with Bluehost and plan to stick with them.

What I won’t be sticking to is how I’ve been blogging in the past. While I don’t have much to hide, I’ll be sharing less of our day-to-day personal life happenings and focusing more on sharing thoughts on food/products/services/etc. that was use. I know I mentioned most of this before, but wanted to reiterate it here.

From little things like healthy snacks for kids and adults to big items like mattresses (yes, really, stay tuned!), I want to share our thoughts here in hopes that you’ll find them useful. Some reviews will be by my own doing on items we paid for ourselves, and some will be provided to me at a discount or for free. No matter how we received the item, you can trust that I will give you our true thoughts.

Yes, I said our, Avery is picking up her communication skills fast and is improving her ability to actually explain her thoughts to us, so why not have her help with reviews? And since we’re a close, loving family, Going Mom will obviously have her opinion heard on here too. This, along with other health-related topics like quick exercise routines and recipes are all in the Going Dad future.

Don’t worry, if you came here just for the cute pics of Avery, I’ll still have some on the blog, and there’s always plenty on my Facebook and Instagram pages. Okay, here’s one just because. She looks very unsure of the camera here….

Currently her favorite pajamas.

I might as well add that, if you’re in the market, whether a tech newbie or hosting pro, Bluehost has what you need and helps make things easy and affordable. So, if you want to check them out, I would appreciate you clicking the banner below. Whether you sign up or not, it helps me earn a few cents and maybe even dollars, and it’s no difference to you!

Posts will be shorter for small item reviews, but still contain useful information (I hope) to help you decide on if it’s worth it to you or not. I am looking forward to giving this new approach a try, and can’t wait to get started!

Hope you’re having a great start to the New Year! Let me know your thoughts on this new approach and what you’d like to see for reviews, workouts, or recipes and I’ll do my best to provide.

A Baby’s New Year’s Resolution: Master the Kettlebell

This was originally posted on New Year’s Day last year, the beginning of 2015, but wanted to repost to show how much smaller our little girl was. She’s obviously a master at working out now, and only getting stronger! Enjoy the post and Happy 2016 now!

Hi babies, Avery here, and I’m here to tell you Happy New Year!! Oh, and to reveal one of my biggest resolutions for 2015. Can you guess what it is?

DSC_1100

I’m staring at it right now.

DSC_1141

Yep, this here is what you call a kettlebell. Simply put, it’s a cast-iron ball with one big handle on top. Kettlebells vary in weight from a wimpy 2 pounds to well over 100lbs!

DSC_1144

This one is only 45 pounds, and I figure since I saw daddy pick it up and carry it around so easily, I’d like to do the same. So, this New Year, I’m making one of my resolutions to master the kettlebell! Starting today, I’m beginning my journey to increasing strength and endurance with kettlebell training!

DSC_1142

*Uuugghhhh* Okay, just need to get a better grip first…

DSC_1143

Yak! My foot slipped! Oh yeah, and my grip is all wrong, I need to hold it from the other side. Here we go…

DSC_1150

Fine, I’m letting my ego get the best of me. Just because daddy walks around with the weight in one hand doesn’t mean I have to…..yet. For now, I’ll stick with using both hands. Let me just regain my footing here.

DSC_1148

Annnnnddddd go! *Grrrrrrr*

DSC_1153

Holy diaper explosions, is this thing bolted to the rug?! What is wrong with you, hands?!

DSC_1147

I think I need to focus more on my leg power and thrusting in the hips.

DSC_1171

Whoa, talk about diaper explosions! I think I had a New Year’s firework just go off!

DSC_1167

Nope, I passed the smell test, so I’m good for another go at this kettle…..no, dumbbell. Ha ha ha! Oh yeah, they have those too, crap, I’m already turning corny like daddy! I better work on my strength just to stand up to bullies picking on my corniness. Thanks, dad…….NOT!

DSC_1172

Ah ha, I moved it! Take that, heavy ball with a handle!

DSC_1173

Guess that answers my question…..it’s not bolted to the rug. Phew, that was an exhausting workout, but I think it’s safe to say progress has been made. Avery – 1 : Kettlebell – 0

And that, my baby peers, is how to start the New Year off right; by attacking your resolutions in full force right off the bat! Don’t put it off, you’ll only find more and more excuses as the days pass. Plus, if you never conquer your goals, mommy and daddy will continue doing things like this to you…

DSC_0911

Not my proudest moment, obviously. Anyway, I’m off to work on my other resolution; getting these darn colorful balls in the right colored hole! They aren’t heavy like a kettlebell, but for some reason they keep throwing me off with their 3 different colors.

Go on now, go enjoy 2015, I’m sure you’ll see me again soon!

Happy 2015!!
