5 Things To Do After A Workout

If you are into fitness, you’ll know that the preparation that you do before a workout is just as important as the recovery that you go through after a workout. Your training is important, and that’s why you stretch and warm up before you start to work out. But what do you do after a workout?

The recovery that you do afterwards is just as essential as your warm up, but it’s something that is too often overlooked. You need to know how to jump start the recovery process for your muscles before you start the workout, as this can prevent injury. You may have already looked up the best heat pads for muscle recovery, or tried to figure out what is ibuprofen and how it can help. However, there are some specific things that you should be doing post-workout to make this an easy recovery for you. So, let’s take a look at five things that you should be doing after a workout.

  1. You should always cool down after a workout. It’s the first thing that people forget to do when time is precious, but it’s really a bad idea to leave it out at all. You need to bring your heart rate down slowly, not just shut off the treadmill and walk away. Without the cool down, you’re going to end up with blood pressure bottoming out too quickly and you could feel faint. Take the five minutes to bring your workout to a close and you’ll thank yourself later.
  2. Stretch properly after your cool down. The last thing that you want is for those muscles of yours to seize up and stop working for you. Without those adequate stretches, you’re going to end up with DOMS – delayed onset muscle soreness.
  3. Use a roller if you want to reduce your muscle tension. Foam rollers are a form of massage and they can help your muscles to feel relaxed and adequately looked after a workout. You want to do this if you are in the gym and your muscles have started to feel sore very soon after the workout has completed.
  4. Hydration is so important when you are working out, but you need to remember to rehydrate after a workout, too. Drink water with added electrolytes to boost your hydration levels after your workout and give your muscles that extra chance at recovery.
  5. Nutrition is essential, and after a workout, it’s always a good idea to go for a snack. Most people love to have protein snacks like boiled eggs and fresh meat after a workout, but it’s also important that you go for something like a banana to up your potassium levels.

A workout is supposed to be something that you enjoy and get something out of when it’s done. The best thing that you can do is to ensure that you follow the steps above and you can recover faster post-workout. Your recovery is as important as anything else, so pay attention to it and allow yourself the time to feel great!

Tips To Keep Your Children Safe Outdoors

Keeping your children safe is something all parents will likely have sleepless nights over. There seem to be dangers everywhere, and when you have a small child, those dangers can seem ever more apparent than before. Here are some tips to keep your children safe outdoors.

Teach Them To Be Wary

Being wary is important for your children to learn as they grow. Having that cautious attitude can be helpful for when they’re on their own whether that be walking to and from school or out with friends. So you want to teach them from an early age about how they should look after themselves. Have they been aware of knowing to keep their distance whenever strangers approach and that they must always be cautious when they’re out in a public area and there might be common dangers like the main roads to look out for. The more you can do in their early years, the likelier it will pay off, and they’ll be much more aware of being safe.

Hold Hands When Crossing The Road

Crossing the road to us as adults is something we do by default now, and often enough, we don’t even think about it. However, it’s important to be keeping your children safe at all times, and the best way of doing this is to hold hands when you come to a crossing. Practicing this from an early age will make them aware that this is a dangerous place to ignore or become distracted by any warning signs. Teach them how to press the button and what to look for. Get down to their level if needs be so you can point and explain how to keep safe and then cross the road with care.

Watch Them When They’re Playing

Having to deal with Rosenfeld injury lawyers is never something you want to find yourself doing, so it’s important to check that even when they’re playing, they’re being observed. It’s a bit of a hassle when you might have other things to do, but you can always speak to any other parents whose kids are out with yours to see if you can take it in turn. Even on a street that’s off from the main road, it’s important to have an eye on them, no matter what. Additionally, having a GPS Tracker can provide an extra layer of security, helping you keep track of their location even when they are out of sight.

Have Them In The Proper Outdoor Wear

The clothes they wear when they’re going out to play is important to get right. You don’t want them in the wrong footwear like a pair of flip flops or smart trainers if they’re going out and getting muddy. Dress them to suit the weather and the type of day they’re going to have. It’s important that they feel comfortable and warm or cool, depending on the weather conditions.
Keeping your children safe outdoors is essential, so make sure to use these tips to keep those little ones safe and sound. Watch them when they’re playing and teach them the life lessons that they need to be careful.

Make Time For Family Time

Fresh air is the best free medicine for most ailments, especially boredom amongst children – and adults alike.

Even with every conceivable bit of technology at their disposal, young people eventually get to the point where they want something different to do, and preferably with a friend, or better still their Mom and Dad!

But parents are inevitably busy people. Paying the household bills means Dad has to be focused on work and his career, and for Mom running a home and general day to day life take up a lot of time. Often this leaves them little time and energy to plan and enjoy quality family time.
So what outdoor activities can you share with your boys and girls, to get the best out of the time you do have together.

Plan a bike ride

Everyone can get involved in planning the route for an expedition on your bikes. Be creative and go somewhere different to your usual rides.  Have a point of interest that is your go to destination and combine a bit of culture along the way. Make sure you are prepared with protective clothing, helmets and plenty of water and most of all, don’t rush it. Try to make it a relaxed family event, rather than something you are fitting into an otherwise busy day.

How about a picnic

Eating outdoors is always a pleasure, and again, the whole family can help to prepare the picnic food. For more choice of destinations further afield, you could take this trip in your car, and why not add a bit of fun by writing down some suggestions, and popping them into a jar.

Mom or Dad can pick one out, and it will be a magical mystery trip!

Taking the trip in your car will mean you can pack plenty of food, games, and blankets to sit on ready for when you stop for your food.  Don’t forget the family dog too if you have one!

Take something out of a box

Sometimes when you are short on time, but you and the family need to get out in the fresh air and do something impulsive, that requires no planning, taking something out of a box, such as rc cars, and having instant fun can be a good idea and a great distraction for bored youngsters.

Drones are becoming accessible to more people and a great way to view your local area from an entirely different perspective. You could even use the information from your drone to plan those bike rides and picnics.

Everything is more enjoyable when you are doing it with someone else.  Children need direction, and simply telling them to ‘go outside and play’ won’t be half as inviting than if you took the time to plan an adventure as a whole family.

Every parent knows that scheduling in specific family time can be almost impossible. Demands on your time are never ending. There is always something to do, somewhere to be. Shopping trips, DIY and the general maintenance of a family home often takes precedence over leisure activities.  But once you’ve made the effort, and set a day aside for nothing but family, it will be so rewarding and you will be making fantastic memories to look back on too.
