“Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site” Read By A Toddler

We’ve had the Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site book since May of this year. Since it entered our home via Amazon’s superfast shipping, Avery has latched onto it as one of her favorite books.

We’d read it for nap time, bed time, and several times during the day. It’s one of those books everyone knows by memory where Going Mom and I were reading it without really looking at the pages. Now Avery doesn’t even need us to read the book and she’s taken to doing it herself.

She’s been randomly picking up the book and reading, so I prepared myself with the video camera standing by. I happened to capture one of her reading sessions as a result and had to share.

With her latest infatuation of construction trucks, Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site is sure to stick around as a favorite for a while.

What books have you memorized lately?

Any favorites that stick around longer than others?

How to Make a Ponytail with a Vacuum

I remember when I first saw a video of a dad putting his daughter’s hair in a ponytail. Avery was still a baby with no hair for me to try this awesome method out for myself.

Keep. The. Vacuum. Away!

Fast forward to today and she has plenty of crazy hair to vacuum. Going Mom is much better at the everyday, normal way of putting her hair in a ponytail, but my clumsy hands simply will not allow this. Luckily, I have the power of the vacuum on my side!

Here’s my demo of how to use the vacuum to put hair up in a ponytail:

An added benefit from this method is that any bugs or dirt get sucked up from her hair too. Hopefully she has none of that, but you never know. I’m just glad she’s so accepting of having a vacuum sucking up her hair as daddy tugs and twists in an effort to “style” the crazy curls.

Have you tried an out-of-the-norm method for styling hair?

What do you think about this vacuum method?

What Happens When You Ask Your Toddler Not To Whine?

Just had to share this with you today. Our toddler daughter has a habit of honing in on us and asking to be picked up. Daddy doesn’t get the whiny request as much as mommy, but it’s usually when my wife and I are trying to have a discussion. Such is life with a toddler, huh?

Helllllloooooo, is anybody paying attention to me?!

Lately, we’ve been telling her not to whine when asking for “Please mommy, up.” and trying to teach her to say please and thank you. She’s usually good at using manners, but we happened to catch a different response that, technically, isn’t wrong.

Now that she knows it’s cute and sees mommy and daddy getting a kick out of it, she does it all the time. And, well, it’s hard not to just laugh and accept our deep-voiced daughter.

If we could manage, I’d love to share her request for more goat cheese, green smoothie, or anything else in this low tone. Maybe we shouldn’t feed her sarcastic tendencies, but it’s just so hard to resist!

Have you ever had your kid respond in a way you weren’t meaning but was still correct as a technicality?
